on (not) getting things done

i quickly forget how i end up reading things on the web, but i just came across the pmarca guide to personal productivity. it resonates highly with me. it seems like i already do a bunch of what’s in there (much to trish’s chagrin!).

lets see, not keeping a schedule? check. i only have one todo list that i kinda track, and my inbox functions as the other half (and it does feel great! to empty it!). i need to check my email less. i’ve lowered the interval it checks to every 15 minutes, and frequently try to hide the window at work, but closing it altogether, wow! going to try that tomorrow. woe is everyone that wants to email me! not answering the phone? mostly-check. i eschew an office phone for this reason, kinda. anyone that needs me can email, IM, or walk up. a real breakfast? check. trish and i sit at our breakfast corner every morning together. and i do love what i do.

i then followed some more links and found structured procrastination. WOW! how to get things done while not doing much of anything at all! it all goes back to how being properly lazy is actually a virtue. the catch is just doing it correctly.

and that’s really just the secret to everything, just do it right. preferably the first time, but subsequent attempts are okay too, as long as its done right prior to giving up :)
