when i went out with my new friend, the amazing artist and crafting force that is lisa congdon the other week, i had the pleasure of drinking two kumquat mojitos.
twas one of the best things i’ve imbibed in ages! i’ve been thinking about slurping down another almost every single day since, but apparently kumquats are out of season now!? huh? weird.
anyway, no matter, save this one for later. you’ll thank me.

check it!
(via woman’s day magazine):
“4 sprigs mint
2 tablespoons superfine sugar
Juice of 1 lime
2 kumquats, halved
2 1/12 ounces light rum, such as Bacardi Superior
1 1/2 ounces club soda
4 ice cubes
Thinly cut sugarcane
In an old-fashioned glass, lightly mash the mint and sugar for 30 seconds or until the mint aroma is released. Add the lime juice, then squeeze in the kumquats to release their juices into the glass. Drop in some of the kumquat shells, pour in the rum, top with the club soda, give it all a stir, and finish with the ice cubes. Use the sugarcane as a stirrer.”

mmm kumquats… but I just can’t brook the mint. Have you tried a basil gimlet? Similar idea: basil muddled with fresh squeezed lime juice. Add ice, vodka, and san pellegrino’s limonata to your shaker, shake, strain, enjoy. Totally delightful summer drink.
hrm, muddled basil. interesting. definitely worth experimenting with. what can go wrong, other than ending up drunk!
love this.
we’ve been doin’ up the mojitos lately. i will have to remember this little twist.
you know, blueprint mag is often a good source for a new cocktail.
have you tried the gin dandy???
